Congressman Paul Ryan was a good pick politically for the following reasons despite his vote for the GM and TARP Bailout. To be clear, the Tea Party will still be needed if Romney/Ryan win the election and I urge everyone to work hard to get local, State and US Senate and House conservatives elected in this election cycle.
Erick Erickson has a great analysis here Paul Ryan: Where Things Stand http://www.redstate.com/erick/2012/08/11/paul-ryan-where-things-stand/
CatholicVote has a great analysis from the social AND fiscal conservative point of view (note the author mentions subsidiarism - an encouraging sign that I hope becomes a trend from within the Catholic population) http://www.catholicvote.org/discuss/index.php?p=34452
Reason Magazine has an excellent and balanced analysis including noting the problems any Tea Partier who understand limited government would recognize as troubling. http://reason.com/blog/2012/08/11/are-paul-ryans-budget-plans-radic...
All in all, I think Paul Ryan was a politically smart choice. Mitt Romney needs to go in the Tea Party direction to win this election. The subsidies, usurpation and cronyism Romney engaged in that neither party wish to dwell on much less mention makes Romney far too similar to Obama.
Let's hope that this is the start of something we can support whole heartedly. We need more real conservatives elected to all levels of government to bolster and encourage existing conservatives and to apply pressure to the RINOs and Demcorats to cut government spending and regulation.
